Internships

Welcome to Farmington Internship Programs 

Farmington Country Club’s internship programs offer exceptionally rewarding opportunities for hospitality management and culinary arts students interested in pursuing careers in club management. Interns will learn all aspects of day-to-day operations of various departments, gain an overview of a private club organization, and develop insight into how departments relate to each other. Throughout the training experience, interns work closely with managers to learn best industry practices.

Food and Beverage

Food and Beverage internships range in scope & leadership responsibilities, and provide interns with an in-depth training program to gain knowledge of member services and hospitality management as they relate to the private club industry.

Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts interns learn to prepare food for fine dining, casual dining and seasonal dining outlets, and they also receive an introduction to pastry. Interns rotate through the Club’s two kitchens and the bakery, progressing through the various kitchen positions. Advanced training in pastry may be arranged.

Golf Course Maintenance

Golf Course Maintenance interns are exposed to all areas of golf course maintenance in a large, private club environment. Through a hands-on approach, interns learn irrigation scheduling, operation, and repair; fertilizer and chemical applications; general course setup; tournament preparation; construction and renovation; mower and machinery maintenance; staff supervision.

Professional Golf Management

Professional Golf Management interns will learn all aspects of day-to-day operations within the golf department. Interns will also gain an overview of the private club industry as well as insight into what it takes to run a top golf operation.

Sports and Recreation Management

Sports and Recreation Management interns will be exposed to the operations of selected sports and recreation departments (golf, racquet sports, fitness, aquatics, youth programs) in a large, private club environment, to supplement an academic program in sports and recreation management or related field.

Training Program Evaluation

At the conclusion of the training program, interns, together with the supervising manager, review and evaluate the internship experience and its applicability to the interns’ future career goals. Interns participate in the Club performance review process, which includes meeting with the supervising manager to discuss performance during the training period and to identify areas to focus on for continued professional development.

Housing

Farmington provides fully-furnished apartments to interns on a space-permitting basis.

  • Opportunity to shadow and work in other departments
  • Resume and Cover Letter Workshop with HR Manager
  • Beverage Workshops and Trainings with Beverage Manager
  • Golf / Racquets Workshop with Head Golf Pro and Head Racquets Pro
  • Finance Workshop with Head of Finance
  • Attend various meetings that would be beneficial to the intern’s development
  • Bi-Weekly meetings with Direct Manager/Program Facilitator for on-going feedback and goal setting
  • Club-sponsored training during the internship period which may include Safety Certification Training (First Aid, CPR, AED) and Safe Beverage Service Training (TIPS)
  • Participation in a CMAA Verified Internship Program
