Farmington Women and Their Influence on Golf in America

October 24, 2019

Robbye King Unger, Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, Virginia Golf Hall of Fame, tells the story of women's golf in Virginia and its origin at Farmington. In 1949, Farmington ladies created the Women's Division of the Virginia State Golf Association, and for the next sixty years Farmington women have been at the core of the development of women's golf at the local, state, and national levels. Sara Watts Miller, Sydney Elliott, Edith Janssen, and Anne Pollard are just a few of the wonderful heroines who called this place home. They were dynamic women with fascinating, funny, and sometimes tragic stories.
