Frequently Asked Questions

Championship Overview

What is the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship?

It is a prestigious USGA national championship for elite amateur women golfers, played in a four-ball (better-ball) match play format in which teams of two compete.

When and where will the 2027 championship take place?

The championship will be held May 15–19, 2027, at Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. Practice rounds begin May 13–14.

Why was Farmington selected to host?

Hosting a USGA championship is an exceptional honor and reflects Farmington’s standing as a top-tier venue capable of meeting the USGA’s rigorous standards for course quality, facilities, hospitality, and overall championship experience. This will mark Farmington’s first USGA championship since the 1993 U.S. Senior Amateur and aligns meaningfully with the Club’s Centennial year and long history in women’s golf. As a key fixture in the USGA’s annual championship lineup, the event will bring elite amateur competition to central Virginia while showcasing both Farmington and Charlottesville’s vibrant golf community on a national stage.

How many players and teams will compete?

The championship field will include 64 teams (128 players), determined through qualifying held in 2026.

Will the event be televised or streamed?

At this time, the championship is not expected to have televised or livestream coverage.

How can I follow scores and results?

Live scoring will be available through the USGA website and app, with additional updates shared through club communications.

Will there be long-term benefits to hosting the championship?

Yes. Hosting this championship strengthens Farmington’s longstanding commitment to women’s golf and becomes part of an enduring legacy that will extend well beyond 2027. The event will inspire young women competing at the highest amateur level, create lasting pride and momentum within the Club, and bring positive cultural and economic impact to the Charlottesville community. It is an opportunity to help shape the future of the game while honoring the traditions that have long been part of Farmington.

Member Access and Club Operations

Will the golf course be closed to members during the event?

Yes. The South, North, and East Courses will be closed to member play during championship week, May 13–19, 2027. We recognize this will affect regular play, and we are exploring reciprocal opportunities at area clubs to provide members with alternative playing options during the championship.

Will the practice facilities be open during the championship?

Practice facilities will have limited member access due to championship operations and player use.

How will the championship affect member areas, club operations, and dining?

Some member areas may be temporarily unavailable or have restricted access during the championship to accommodate players, officials, hospitality, and operational needs. While we expect many club amenities, including dining, to remain available whenever possible, some adjustments may be necessary. As we get closer to the tournament, members will receive thorough details about any temporary impacts, along with alternative options and accommodations designed to help minimize disruption.

What about parking and traffic during the championship?

Members will have designated parking arrangements, with traffic plans and access maps provided in advance.

Member Experience During the Championship

Will members be able to watch the championship, and will there be hospitality or special viewing options?

Yes. Members and their guests will be welcome to watch the championship, with designated viewing opportunities throughout the course. Plans are also underway for member hospitality areas, which may include food and beverage offerings, prime viewing locations, and other special amenities designed to enhance the spectator experience. Additional details will be shared as planning progresses.

Will the course setup be different from normal play?

Yes. The USGA will prepare the course with championship conditions appropriate for elite competition.

Entries will open in spring 2026 through the USGA. Eligibility and qualifying details will be available at usga.org.

Additional Questions

Will members be able to host guests during championship week?

During championship week, traditional member-hosted guest play and accommodations will be significantly limited, as housing and lodging needs related to the championship will be coordinated through the USGA for players and official participants. While regular guest hosting will not be available in the traditional sense during this period, additional details regarding any exceptions or related accommodations will be communicated well in advance.

Will caddies be needed for the championship?

Yes. A call for caddies will take place in advance of the championship. While many competitors may bring their own caddies, additional local caddies will be needed to support the field. Those selected will participate in a structured training program designed to prepare them for the expectations and standards of a USGA championship. This will be a unique opportunity to be involved in the event and support elite amateur competition.

How will championship preparations affect course conditions in the months leading up to 2027?

Preparations will be designed to support championship conditions while maintaining the quality of member play leading up to the event. Notably, there are no plans for spring aerification in 2027. To protect playing surfaces throughout the winter and help prepare for unpredictable weather conditions, the main practice range will be covered and protected. Members may also notice additional agronomic practices or course preparation measures as the championship approaches, all intended to ensure the course performs at the highest level.

Will members be able to volunteer for the championship?

Yes. Volunteer support will be essential to the success of the championship, with approximately 150 volunteers needed across a variety of roles. Opportunities may include marshaling, scoring, hospitality, transportation, and other operational support. Volunteers will receive official tournament uniforms, with items based on level of participation, and will play an important role in bringing the championship to life.

Can non-members volunteer for the event?

Yes. Volunteer opportunities will be open to both members and non-members. Welcoming support from the broader community will be an important part of the championship and a meaningful way to engage those who want to be involved in a U.S. National Championship hosted in central Virginia.
