Their steadfast promotion of our great sport is recognized with a letter from the PGA President, a special Quarter Century Club certificate and a gold Quarter Century Club lapel pin. In the fall of 2018, the Garden Club of Virginia chose Farmington to be one of two Virginia properties to receive the services of one of their Fellows in Landscape Architecture. Other recipients of this award include such notable plantations as Berkeley, Shirley and Tuckahoe, and Farmington’s choice for this honor elevates its status as a historic Virginia property.
Masters in landscape architecture from around the country apply for these fellowships, and the person chosen to work at Farmington for the summer of 2019 is Dania Khlaifat. Dania is a Fulbright Scholar who graduated from the University of Massachusetts on May 10 with a master’s degree in landscape architecture. Dania is a native of Jordan and her interest in landscape preservation was inspired by her country’s culture and heritage. Dania had strong recommendations from her UMass professors, and her excellent drawing and analytical skills were apparent in her work examples. She is very enthusiastic about studying Farmington’s historic landscape.
Dania will present a report of her study to specially invited members of the Garden Club of Virginia, to the Farmington Historical Society, and any interested Farmington members on Wednesday, August 28 at 10:00 in the ballroom.

After she swept all three titles in the Davenport City Tennis Championships in 1993, Rachel Gale dedicated the tournament to the memory of her father, Les, who had just passed away earlier that year in Brockport, N.Y.
Gale wore her father’s wedding ring during the matches and continued to wear it for the next 13 years, when she won five more city singles crowns and finished runner-up twice. The little bundle of energy also claimed numerous doubles titles with Leslie Butterworth and Joe Cappillino. Read the full article.

At twilight on Sunday evening, Yates stepped into their realm by winning the 81st Kenridge Invitational at Farmington Country Club. His four-shot victory over Kenridge firsttimers Kyle Bailey of Roanoke Country Club, and 17-year-old David Morgan of Naples, Fla., made Yates only the fourth Central Virginia player to win the event over the last half century (Jim Kite 1970, Tim Pemberton 2003, Nick Little 2008).
