Alan Shaw Taylor, Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation Professor of History at the University of Virginia, returns to Farmington to continue his lecture series honoring the bicentennial of the University of Virginia. During the early 1820s, Thomas Jefferson hoped to complete the University of Virginia by taking an endowment from the College of William and Mary, Jefferson's alma mater. Dr. Taylor’s lecture, entitled “Founding a University on the Ruins of a College: The Politics of Higher Education in Virginia During the 1820s," discusses this subject and the contentious political situation that subsequently arose from it.
